The International GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) was established in 1978 at the Holcomb Research Institute of Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. In 1991, the IGWMC was relocated to the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, USA. On July 1, 2011 the center name was changed to the Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center, which reflects the significant expansion of our research activities. It is currently operated as a research center in Mines’ Geology and Geological Engineering Department.

The mission of the Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center is to stimulate the correct and efficient use of simulation models and related computer-based support technology in the management and protection of groundwater resources; train groundwater professionals by involving them in this endeavor; and to facilitate communication and interaction of groundwater professionals on modeling issues. To this end, IGWMC conducts activities related to groundwater modeling methodologies, software, and management including: information dissemination, development of educational materials and courses, research on modeling methodology and functionality, development and testing of software, distribution of software and organization of conferences.
